Biography

Mexican tenor Marco Antonio Mondragón Castillo has been engaged as a soloist under contract at the Staatstheater Darmstadt since the 2023/24 season, beginning his professional career in Germany at the age of 27.

In Darmstadt, his operatic appearances include Andrés in Wozzeck, conducted by Daniel Cohen; Der Geschäftsmann in Der Kleine Prinz (German world premiere); Junger Seemann and Hirt in Tristan und Isolde, directed by Eva-Maria Höckmayr; as well as performances in La Traviata, Otello, and Aida, the latter two conducted under the baton of Johannes Zahn. He is also scheduled to appear in the upcoming production of Iphis.

 

Marco has worked under the artistic leadership of Karsten Wiegand, Sören Schumacher, and Kirsten Uttendorf. He has also appeared in the musical Jekyll & Hyde alongside Alexander Klaws, expanding his profile across operatic and music-theatre repertoire.

 

He performs regularly in Germany, Mexico, and Canada, and is particularly noted for his versatility across lyric tenor and character roles, as well as for his expertise in Latin American music, which forms a distinctive and complementary part of his artistic profile.
